Penrose Sails
Skinners Brewery
Falmouth Boat Construction

The Club’s racing planned for 2008 follows the pattern of recent years but with a few additional features. The most obvious of these is the adoption of commercial sponsors for the racing prizes to whom we are most grateful. For the Friday Evening races the old A series will be known as the Penrose Sailmakers Series and will comprise the first three and final three races of the season. The old B series will be known as the Skinners Brewery Series and make up the middle six races. The Falmouth Boat Construction Pursuit Series will take the form of five pursuit races on Sundays, one more than last year.

There will also be the Ladies Race, passage races to Fowey and Newlyn and three races for the Working Boats.

The courses in Carrick Roads are new for 2008. They are very similar in style to the set used for the previous two years but the odd problem has been removed and one or two features added in response to competitor feed back. The club buoys are also provided with the help of sponsors, namely Inflatable Boat Services, Challenger Marine, Mylor Chandlery, Roger Taylor Optometrist and Mylor Yacht Harbour.

Once again there is no entry fee for members but the usual entry form must be completed. All of the race documents can be found by clicking on the boxes below and printed from there. Please read the conditions and all matters relating to safety in the Notice of Race before sending your entry form to the Sailing Secretary.

MYC safety boat The club has its own safety boat which is always deployed during races in Carrick Roads.

See the Notice of Race and Sailing Instructions for details.

Henri-Lloyd Falmouth Week Falmouth Working Boat race Friday evening racing Lay-up Race Clubhouse during Falmouth Week

These are the classes which we currently race:
(with start time)

Class
E

Echo PY yachts Division 1
(1845)
"The Fast Set" with boats from Mylor, Flushing and Falmouth. These guys and girls do tend to get a bit serious about their racing. Some have even been known to lodge protests.

Class
U

Uniform PY yachts Division 2
(1845)
Effectively a new class for 2008, intended to encourage cruising boats that have competed for a few seasons to develop their competitive edge.

Class
G

Golf Gaffers
(1850)
This class is always contested by a wide range of types and sizes of craft.

Class
H

Hotel Shrimpers
(1850)
Traditional one design racing with a fleet of one of the most popular boats to be designed and built in Cornwall.

Class
Q

Quebec PY yachts Division 3
(1855)
The class that gives Mylor racing its distinctive attraction. Most of the boats in this class were never really built with racing in mind and have handicaps that look like telephone numbers. But they jostle around the course having just as much fun and being just as competitive as the rest.

Class
B

Bravo Large working boats
(1900)
"The Queens of Carrick Roads" with big sail areas and big crews racing over the oyster beds that they dredge under rather less sail usually with just two crew in the winter.

Class
C

Charlie Small working boats
(1900)
A popular class most of whom also work the oyster beds in the winter. They have the lines of the bigger boats and are just as competitive.
* A suitable class is allocated by the Committee.
